Iris folding at the craft group

Today's group was quite unusual in that we hardly spoke a word to each other! No, there was no big argument! We were much too engrossed and concentrating very hard on making our cards to be bothering with any kind of polite conversation! Beryl showed us what to do, and Mavis brought some cards she had made earlier to show us. There was a lovely robin, a humming bird, a Christmas tree and some others I didn't see. I'm afraid I was too busy to even think about taking photos for the blog, so, if any of you iris folders can send me a photo of your card I shall put them on here for all to admire. We had an excellent afternoon, as they say: time flies when you are enjoying yourself!
Here are my efforts:

Climate Changes - it's happening to us all

Today is Earth Day, and soon the Paris agreement on climate change will be ratified - so now it's time for us to take some action

Here is an excerpt from behindthedoorat104.blogspot.co.uk

Over the coming months we will be recruiting volunteers from the membership to act as Climate Ambassadors. Register your interest by emailing publicaffairs@nfwi.org.uk

The NFWI will provide expert-led training on the causes and impacts of climate change, training on successfully engaging people on this issue and a toolkit of further resources. The ambassadors will work with the NFWI to produce a local case study, looking into the causes and impacts of climate change in their local area, and will work to raise awareness of the issue locally.

WI members have vital stories to tell about the impact of our changing climate. The NFWI would like to harness the experiences of members to raise awareness of the things that could be lost to climate change.

Brixham WI Meeting on the Queen's Birthday

Happy Birthday to you....

With a lovely cake - a slice for everyone made by Mary. Margery did the honours in blowing out the candles. As you can see, lots of us wore red, white and blue and there were a couple of sparkly tiaras! Annie made a pretty little red, white and blue ribbon for everyone to wear, too.

The competition asked for a limerick or poem about the WI. Annie came first:
Sheila was second
And Barbara Ashton third:

Silk Painting was very successful!

Thank you very much to Barbara Lawrence for organising (which involved preparing and transporting lots of equipment, not quite the kitchen sink, but near enough!) and showing us how to achieve some great silk painting! We made scarves, inserts for cards and wall hangings - we were very industrious and creative. The plan is to bring what we made to show everyone at the next WI meeting.

The WI Bulb Scheme

Here are some of the beautiful bulbs I bought last year from the WI bulb scheme - aren't they gorgeous? The hyacinths were a real picture, too.

Yo, Gangsta Kate!

Kate won third prize in the DFWI Radio Devon Cup Writing competition! We whooped and cheered when her name was read out at the Spring Council meeting today! She is invited to perform the rap at the Autumn Council meeting in Barnstaple! We will have to turn out in force to support her!

Our Happy Birthday card for the Queen

One of our very talented members has made a beautiful card to send to the Queen on the occasion of her 90th birthday.
She has even decorated the outside of the box: fantastic, isn't it?
