An Adventure!

We had a great walk today along to Fishcombe Cove, for a coffee and a chat with two very tame robins! Thank you walkers for your lovely company! The weather was gorgeous!

Next week, on Tuesday 4th May, we will meet at the other statue - William of Orange at 10 am! We are going on an adventure - catching the Western Lady at 10.45 am for a trip across the bay and a wander around Torquay. With a plan to partake of lunch - take your own sandwiches or buy something there! Returning on the 2 pm Western Lady! How brilliant is that! (Well, unless the weather dictates otherwise!) If we don’t manage to get to Torquay, we will go for a walk!

Activities next week:

Brixham WI members: dates for your diary next week are Tuesday 10.30 am meet at the Man and Boy Statue for a walk to Fishcombe Cove. (Where it would be rude not to get a drink from the café!😜)

😜. On Thursday, meet at the Admiral Pool (near the Rugby Club) at 8.30 am for a swim. This week there was only one other person in the pool!
How can you resist all of this activity?

Wednesday 21 April 2021

WI Swim Club is starting tomorrow!

Wendy C will be going to the Admiral pool at 8.30 am tomorrow, Thursday 22nd April in case there is anyone who would like to join her!

WI walks!

We enjoyed some excellent company, beautiful weather and a lovely walk! Some went to Berry Head and others along the breakwater.

Next week: Tuesday 27th at 10.30 am from the Man and Boy statue.

A card for the Queen

In response to a suggestion from Annie Schofield, Beryl has made a very beautiful card for us to send to the Queen.

She has given a choice of two inserts, each with a thoughtful message. I have decided on the tulip, as the tulips this year are rather splendid. (And it was very hard to choose between them!)

Barbara has been busy!

Here are some more of her lovely cards. Barbara did a Denman at Home zoom course on making cards using washi tape. Excellent result here, wouldn’t you say? Although a very experienced card maker, Barbara says it is worth doing papercraft courses because there is always something new to learn.

Now is the time to own up to having bought some washi tape because it is so pretty, not really knowing what to do with it! 😂

Next idea for the knitting bee...

Once you clever knitting bees have done with the scarves, hats and blanket.....will this be the next project? Just asking!

Our Annual Meeting

Our Annual Meeting via zoom and email was very successful - thank you to everyone who participated!

We had a great quiz and chat, in addition to organising our knitting bee! Mary C is organising a blanket made up of squares, knitted in a very sociable way, together in groups of six in back gardens!

Subs Day!

We had a most enjoyable, sociable morning in Tina’s garden, with a spot of plant exchange on the side! A number of members came along to pay their subs for the year, and it was really lovely to see everyone!

Thank you, Tina and to everyone for their help!

Are you still planning to join us? Please get in touch as soon as possible to let us know your intentions!

We have lots of exciting and fun ideas to get us started!

Denman at Home courses on zoom

Several of our members have enjoyed a variety of  the £5 zoom courses offered by Denman at Home. A while ago  I did “Flemish Florals”, a free motion machine embroidery course with Stacey Chapman. Here is the finished article:

If you have made anything on a Denman course, please send me a photo!

Thank you to the walkers!

Here is a slightly blurry, out of focus photo of two groups of four of us who walked to Fishcombe Cove this morning. Wonderful walk, fabulous company and a great morning! Thank you everyone! (It really was only coffee, nothing added!)

Next week we will walk on Tuesday 20th, meet at the Man and Boy statue at 10.30.

Wednesday 14th April 10.30 am by the Man and Boy statue for all members and for those planning to be members this week!

Exciting times!

Just in case you are wondering what we are all about?

Our key messages

We are a dynamic organisation with a diverse membership.

Our three key messages bring together the WI’s defining

characteristics and explain our vision.

The WI is here to inspire you

We are about inspiring women through experiences, knowledge and skills.

These are passed down through generations and updated every day.

The WI is everything you want it to be

Whatever your reason for joining, we offer all kinds of opportunities

to all kinds of women. For some it’s a chance to meet people and

catch up with friends. For others it’s a way to learn new skills and

campaign on issues that affect the wider community.

The WI is what you make of it

WIs come in all shapes and sizes and our members can be involved

in the way that suits them. This can mean joining a local WI or

setting up a new group with other like-minded women.

Others may prefer to be Associate members with the opportunity for local WI involvement.

Thank you! 💚

Today, Sparks was presented with a plant and a card by Barbara Lawrence and Tina Hemmings, as a thank-you on behalf of her Brixham WI members, for all the work she has done over this past year to motivate, entertain and inspire us all. The rose was appropriately named "Jam and Jerusalem "

Faux Calligraphy Course

Dart Bay Food, Crafts and Skills are thinking of running a Faux Calligraphy zoom session one evening. I did this through Denman at Home last year and it was excellent! My writing has never been so neat for important messages and cards!

If you would like to join in - I guess it will cost in the region of £3.50 - please email jackie.bufton@devonwi.org.uk to say you would like to take part.
