I've seen photos of walkers from Australia and Jersey so far!

We walked the world for ACWW day!

The hardy walkers met early in the sunshine to set off for Berry Head, along the coast path.

Taking lots of photo opportunities on the way!

Some of us went to see if any porpoises had come out, but not yet! So we turned back to join the others in the café, there were 18 of us altogether!

The food was superb, the service excellent and the company unsurpassed! We collected £13.68 in our Pennies for Friendship box for ACWW. A top morning!
Oh, and we all sang Happy Birthday to Marilyn!

Our Annual Meeting

It was a very good meeting, with two visitors, one, our DFWI Advisor, Evelyn Watson, and a Marlborough WI member who brought us a gift!
It was Elly's final meeting as secretary of Brixham WI, in some ways the end of an era as she has been a committee member for 15 years! After such appreciated and dedicated service she received many thanks, a round of applause and a beautiful potted rose for her patio.

Here are members getting ready to start the meeting, with Kate and Shirley hard at work on the sales table.
Evelyn, our advisor gave us some useful and interesting information about being WI members and our code of conduct and then went on to tell us a very amusing story:
Which was much enjoyed!
Our other visitor, Doreen Davies from Marlborough WI in Wiltshire came, whilst on holiday, to give us a Devon WI badge which had been discovered by the sister of one of her WI members. She offered it to a WI in Devon via the WI Facebook page (whose logo is a daisy); I was lucky enough to be the first to say yes please! Doreen presented it to us on a pretty green heart adorned with a daisy (which she had made this morning!)

She gave us her WI programme and the Wiltshire county news, and issued a warm invitation to any of us to go along to their meetings if we should be in the area! It was very lovely to make contact with her, and enjoy her company for our meeting today.

Once more, there was a marvellous collection of items for the Torbay refuge. Thank you everyone, and a big thank you for the donations received since our last meeting, too.

Women Walk the World has begun!

Here is the first photo from the ACWW Facebook page from what I'm sure will be a huge series recording the women walking together to celebrate The Associated Country Women of the World.

Don't forget to join our walk on 26th April! We're treating ourselves to brunch at the Guardhouse Café on Berry Head!

DFWI Spring Council Meeting in Torquay

Julie Ayres and her team excelled themselves today! Six of us from Brixham went along and had a very good day.
After lunch we listened to a most amazing and inspiring speaker, Mandy Hickson, who is a former RAF fast jet pilot. Spectacular. She was a marvellous speaker.

We read Margaret's entry in the story competition - lots of members had entered, so it must have been a tricky job choosing the winner! Here is the winning story:

We looked at all of the entries in the cross stitch competition, including Sheila's - again, there were so many entries! I wouldn't like to be a judge! Sheila's is bottom right in the photo.

Here are all of the photos which will be published in the DFWI 2018 calendar:

We will receive a paper copy of this, with an order form. This way they will be able to order precisely the number needed, thereby avoiding any waste.

We also spoke to the ACWW representative and picked up a collecting box for pennies for friendship.

What a hoppy morning!

Our coffee morning in town was very successful, plenty of helpers, cakes and surprise mugs to sell and lots of customers coming in for a drink and a chat.
A good time was had by all!

Beryl very thoughtfully brought along some bunny ears for us to wear. They suited so well that one 'bunny' even went next door to the Coop and said not an eyebrow was raised in surprise! I guess most people in Brixham are used to seeing folk dressed up!
