Committee Members know how to have fun!

Today we set off for the Barn Owl at Kingskerswell for a lovely lunch - just to practise; after all, it is quite a while since we went out for lunch, isn’t it? 😆

Good food and great company! It was a bit dark!

Anyone for bowls?

“On behalf of the NFWI and the Bowls Development Alliance (BDA), thank you, Brixham WI, for registering your interest in taking part in the bowls programme, currently being offered to all WIs in England.  Your details have been registered with the NFWI and forwarded to the BDA; you will shortly receive contact from a member of staff at the BDA who will either put you in touch with your local club so that you can begin to make arrangements and start the programme, or offer more detailed information before you decide whether or not to proceed.”

We have tried - and enjoyed, albeit with some limitations- walking netball! Does bowling appeal to you?

NFWI joins with the Climate Coalition to Show the Love

This February, people across the country will make, wear and share green hearts to Show The Love for the places, people and life we want to protect from climate change.
Show The Love is organised by The Climate Coalition, the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change and limiting its impact on the people, places and life we love at home in the UK and around the world.
The Climate Coalition represents over
130 organisations and 15 million people from across the country. Together, we want a world powered by clean and secure energy within a generation.
The Climate Coalition

Oh dear! I think we may have started something.....

January Craft Group

There was a record number of ladies at Tuesday Craft this week when we tackled Kusudama Flowers - with guidance from Sparks and with various degrees of success.  All however agreed that we enjoyed making the flowers and most of us will be continuing the process at home.  And the results were super.

Record of January’s Institute Meeting

We had a really great start to the year! The room was full and buzzing! Plenty of long standing members, lots of new members and ten guests! Mary described lots of plans for workshops, social events and outings - I think we have a busy year ahead of us!

Brixham WI Meeting 17 January 2019

Mary welcomed members and a lot of new faces, and lead us in singing Jerusalem.
Apologies – Margery, Elly, Evan and Susan.
Secretary – a precis of November’s meeting was given. The What’s On board was promoted.
President – Mary thanked various members for their work over Christmas, particularly for the tea lights.  The vodka cake sketch was good fun and done at very short notice. As Kate has left, we would like to do a review for the next occasion.  Perhaps people could organise something in small groups.
Mary gave a short report of things planned for next year.
Exercises with Val from Feb
Workshops – gold foil, wet felting already organised
Members would like to do silk painting again, and polymer beads (possibly in Oct).  Silver Clay workshop was discussed but felt to be too expensive.
Walks for ACCW, and others to be arranged.
Christmas trip – possibly to Truro
Tuesday Craft has been moved to Rugby Club.  Next Tuesday, Sparks will be helping us with paper-craft. Bring Pritt, paper (magazine thickness or more), scissors, paper clips, and maybe a work board. If this is not to your liking, come along for cards, board games or your own craft.
Resolutions for the next WI Campaign.  Resolutions were put to the meeting and votes taken.  Resolution 2 – Trees, Improving the Natural Landscape gained the most votes. This result will be sent to DFWI to be collated.
Suzanne from the Red Box scheme gave us a talk on Period Poverty and how the Red Box of sanitary items is put to use in local primary and secondary schools.   The meeting agreed that we would like to support this for the next year to replace the woman refuge, our last project. Bring in items for the next meetings.
Ladies Lunch – Margaret has chosen to take us to The Manor Inn pub at Galmpton Tues 12th March. 12.30 for 1pm, 2 courses.
Next month we will make awards for 2018 flowers, and Member of the Year.
Flowers 1st Jan, 2nd Penny, 3rd Marilyn.
Raffle.
