Record of our September meeting.

Record of Brixham W.I. Meeting, 19th September 2019
Apologies- Tina, Pat, Susan Jan, Wendy M, Wendy C, Mavis, Alison

Brixham W.I. welcomed Members from Uffculme W.I. to join them for the September meeting, and before the meeting to partake of a fish and chip lunch in the Harbour. Much enjoyed.

Our meeting was visited by The Lady Katherine in character and costume. A Tudor Lady who addressed the Members as if back in Tudor period. She then told us she creates her own costumes and allowed us to see how her outfit was created. A delightful afternoon, and appreciated by the visitors vote of thanks. (Editor’s note: ‘Lady Katherine’s farthingale’ is her Facebook page if you would like to know more about her. )

There was a shortened business section.
The recent Galmpton Fund Raising effort raised £2,300+ for Rowcroft. Well done!
The recent trip to Fermoys Garden Centre was excellent and much enjoyed, so was the tea. Everyone had a great time at the bowling session (with delicious cakes!) at St Mary’s Bowls Club.
There will be a craft session to make Christmas crowns 2.00 on Tuesday. Usual tools and christmas cards will be required.
The talk at the group meeting on 29th October will be on Muffin the Mule. Stoke Gabriel Football Club, 12 o’clock for 12.30. Tickets £5
Visit to Truro on November 20th has 9 places available. There will be a late return as the plan is to stay for the evening lantern event.

There was a vote of thanks from the Uffcombe Members for our hospitality.

September Institute meeting

Lady Katherine, a Tudor lady, came to meet us today to give a fascinating insight into her life and her wardrobe. We learnt a lot of very interesting information about everyday living and customs of the period.
As you can see, her costume was exquisite - made entirely herself.

We also welcomed visitors from our twin WI at Uffculme as well as a number of Brixham guests. The tea monitors and washing up team worked very hard - thank you all!

Next Institute meeting on Thursday!

This month we will be time travelling to have a peep inside the wardrobe of a Tudor lady!
If we all turned up in our Tudor costumes we may not quite fit everyone into the room - so it’s probably best to come in your 2019 clothes this time! #nodressingup

Fabulous Fermoys visit

Twenty of us went along to Fermoys garden centre this afternoon, courtesy of Mary’s planning and organisation. We listened to a very interesting talk on Autumn Planting, and after a simply divine scone and cream, we swarmed all over the garden centre filling our baskets and emptying our wallets! Now, it’s all hands to the spade, planter and sack of compost!
Perhaps we will have a Brixham open gardens weekend in the Spring?

More information about DDay
