Sew Mondays

We had a really good afternoon! Julie M brought her wonderful quilt, all finished and ready to go. Jill H brought her scissors case which we decided to make for ourselves!

We have plans for our next item, too! Ann W brought her sewing kit and we all immediately decided we would like one, too! Especially as we are planning some sewing workshops! Here is Ann’s

It just rolls up into a handy shape to protect all of the sewing kit, and is easily portable. The perfect next project!
Thank you for your company, everyone!
                                                                       The aftermath!

New dates available for Sew Mondays after Christmas - let me know when you would like to come along!

Brixham WI on tour

Are you free on Saturday 4th December? Fancy a Brixham WI on tour trip to Exeter? Look at the sights, do a bit of shopping, visit the cathedral? Lots to do and lovely if you go with friends!

Meet at Paignton railway station at 9.30 am - have some fun!

Swimmers!

We were rather depleted this morning as two of our swimmers are feeling poorly. Best wishes to you both for a speedy recovery.

Those of us swimming thought that next week, we will have a 9.15 am start - a little bit more amenable on a chilly morning!

Today’s craft afternoon was very industrious! Mary C showed us lots of tips, ideas and materials to make three Christmas cards. It was very enjoyable and productive. I forgot to take any photos! Perhaps someone else did?

Sunday, 21 November 2021

The coming week with Brixham WI:

Extra note from Mary C, who is organising our craft session: please bring 50p in order to make 3 cards! You probably need to bring your craft kit of scissors, glue, pencil, ruler, cutting mat…. I’m not sure of these items, I am just making it up as I go along. I will correct it as soon as someone has told me!

This week we are meeting on Tuesday at 10.30 by the Man and Boy statue for a walk, then at 2 o'clock on Wednesday for our craft session and on Thursday a swim at 8.30. Looking forward to see you!

Our November Institute meeting.

We had a very interesting talk about the history of Brixham at our meeting, and a very good number of beautiful entries for the Margaret Seaward Cup. The cup was won by Tina Hemmings, much to her surprise, because of all the fantastic work submitted. Wendy Parr, Susie Brooker and Sue Curnow-Yates came 2nd = and 4th for their seaside embroidery, eco printing, and Christmas table centre.

November 1st Group Meeting

We have received some lovely comments following our Upstairs Downstairs meeting at the Cricket Club! Thank you, we appreciate it! Here is the latest from Evelyn Watson, our DFWI advisor and County Chair:

Dear Sparks and Brixham WI Committee members.
Thankyou so much for arranging and giving us all such a lovely afternoon yesterday.  Your choice of speaker was excellent- can I have her contact details please! - and she entertained us well.
It was just so lovely to be doing something normal and great to see so many members there.
Whoever is next to organise something has a lot to live up to.
Thanks again.  See you soon hopefully

Group meeting 1st November

Did anyone leave a brush behind? Ann P is looking after it for you! It was part of the competition for a pre 1940s household item! There were some wonderful entries, thank you! Our speaker chose her favourites, according to certain events or households they reminded her of!
We welcomed many members from all three WIs in our group, and enjoyed a very friendly sociable afternoon. Jane Urquhart, our speaker, was absolutely amazing, and gave us an enthralling talk about her life and experiences.
Thank you to the many Brixham WI members who made it all happen!

A message from our secretary:

I’ve now received the booking form for the pamper days in Exeter (dates on Page 4 of the DFWI News)

The closing date is 30th December. If anyone is interested, please contact Wendy M.
