Craft afternoon

Very best wishes to all of our members who are feeling poorly or who are away on holiday at the moment - we missed you all!

We enjoyed a very chatty afternoon, making kusudama flowers: some of us remembering how to do it and the rest learning for the first time. Lots of fun and a great afternoon, thank you, everyone! Jayne, Ann P, Wendy Mac Pat, Susan F and Carol P.

Important information from Yes @The Edge

With the cost of energy on the rise YES is offering a safe and cosy space throughout the winter months. Our heated main hall will be open for dropins all week with laptops/internet access available, hot food served daily and a kettle that’s never far away!

Sew Mondays

Six of us were sewing today, on this Sew Monday at Jill’s house. We were all working on our own projects: a Christmas angel, a swan and a needle case as well as some quilting panels, and a sewing kit. All very industrious, sociable and very enjoyable!

This Friday 1 - 3.30pm at The Edge

What’s On this week?

The last week of September promises to be a fun packed, busy week for our 60 Brixham WI members!
Monday: meet to catch the 10.30 bus, and walk from Goodrington to Paignton.
2pm Sew Mondays at Jill Haslam’s house. Does anyone require a lift?
Tuesday: Walk in Brixham, meet at the Man and Boy statue at 10.30. Dogs welcome!
Wednesday: 2pm craft session. £2 for room hire and 50p for materials. Bring paper and glue - more information - see below.
Thursday: 8.30 swim at the Admiral Pool (no sign of Splashy Man so far….)
Friday: 10.30 coffee at the Berry Head hotel

Kusudama flowers

Please bring with you, in addition to your mug:

Glue - either: narrow double sided tape and scissors

Or: Pritt Stick and ten or twelve paper clips for each flower

Paper to make your flowers - For example: good quality wrapping paper, glossy magazine paper. Thick paper will make your flower harder to make!

To make one flower you need five squares, all the same size, in matching or contrasting colours. (Around 4 or 5 inches square). Bring your squares ready cut, or you can cut them on the day.

Beads or buttons to put in the centre of your flowers

There will be spares of everything if you arrive without!

Our Institute meeting today!

Our speaker gave us a fabulous insight into the life and paintings of Beryl Cooke. Such detail, such emotion and such a sense of humour! A great afternoon!

With our new start time of 2 o’clock, we were able to look at all of the activities and events on offer, as well as spend some social, catching up time, too. It was good to meet some of our new members as well as a couple of guests!

It was a glorious day for a stroll along the harbour and a lovely cup of coffee at the Breakwater Bistro.

Sew Mondays

Sew Mondays - our next meeting is on Monday 26th September.

This group was set up because we were given a great deal of fabric and sewing notions and we wished to put them all to good use. We meet at a member’s house (Jill Haslam) always on a Monday, and a date suggested by our kind host. All Brixham WI members are welcome, regardless of your sewing experience or skill. We decide on the day what we will do - sometimes our own project and other times we all make something suggested by one of the members. Virginia ran a day workshop for us in the Spring. If you would like to come along, please let me know - I will have a list for you to sign at our Institute meeting on Wednesday, or you can email brixhamwi@gmail.com. If there are more than 8 people, we will organise a second session.

What’s on this week?

For our Brixham WI members this week we have:

Tuesday: 10.30 walk. Meet at the Man and Boy statue
Wednesday: 2pm Institute meeting - please remember your badge, mug and a single flower from your garden.
Thursday: visit to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Park at the Cricket club from 9.30 am
Friday: 10.30 coffee at the Berry Head Hotel

Ah! Welcome to Brixham WI blog!

I am so pleased you have come to have a look!

In the middle of the page are the posts about our activities or items which might be of interest. Look at the column on the left - other useful information. Click on anything in blue and it will take you to another page to see that topic.

On the right at the top you have links to National and Devon WIs. Underneath that is a list of dates - (in chronological  rather than subject order!) - so you can check here if you have forgotten when something is happening.

Do you want to look at our past events? Scroll down, or look on the bottom right column and you can pick a month to research.

Have fun! It is all out here for your information and enjoyment!

In the photo here, you see what is printed on the last page. Other activities and events are always advertised at our Institute meetings and by email - so please be sure to come to the meetings and to check your emails regularly if you want to know what is going on! Joining in is all the fun!
if in doubt, ask another member!
