The Box visit

Have you replied to the question from your Committee about the visit to The Box in Plymouth? If you haven’t decided yet, say yes! We went there yesterday

! The natural history displays are absolutely wonderful! Not to mention the painting of Elizabeth 1 on loan from Woburn Abbey! And, well, really, the whole place! Also…for any West Country girls of a certain age: Gus Honeybun is in residence, too!

News about Denman and it’s future

The WI used to own a country house near Abingdon which was used to deliver courses of all varieties as well as accommodation. As it was not financially viable, it was sold. Here is the latest news about the future: https://www.thewi.org.uk/denman?fbclid=IwAR14HDZARIAri8TjpZidWlJ9a7Cm-7nAPoapQegQ6uSDt-3-kSry9i0nJmA

Sorry I missed this on our What’s On this week post! It sounds as if the debate about the resolution was very interesting - can’t wait to hear what our members thought of it!

Book Share

Book share this afternoon was as chatty as ever. We discussed Moriarty by Anthony Horowitz, mostly but not universally enjoyed. Thoughts inevitably turned to Magpie Murders. Apparently the TV programme was very different from the book

Cadfael by Ellis Peters
Ely Griffith, including Crossing Places
Louise Welch The Cutting Room
Anthony Horowitz series, including The Twist of the knife
Jeffrey Archer series including n a Blind Eye
Peter Grainer’s D C Smith series
Terry Pratchett Nation
The Alice Network
Lessons in chemistry.
And we still had time to discuss the coronation, pirates, republicans and the meaning life, while we put the world to rights

Lots of recommendations:
Olive Kitteridge and Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout
Meet me at the Museum by Anne Youngson
The Confession by Jesse Burton

West Side Story?

Brixham WI members! Another fabulous evening on offer at a discount for us at Brixham Theatre! The latest musical film of West Side Story! It is great! Please contact Lynn Asher to book your ticket! Do it today! Details on WhatsApp and in your email!

Bookworms

Bookworms met to discuss Eleanor Olifant is completely fine. Some of us loved it and couldn’t put it down, some of us didn’t saying it was not a page turner and too wordy. We wondered if her nature was autism or from her childhood and found out it was due to the events of her life. We discussed autism in general. Wondered how Eleanor’s life would have been if she hadn’t made a friend in Raymond and discussed how childhood events can influence your future.

Other books read this month
Two brothers by Ben Elton
The Muse by Jessie Burton
oranges are not the only fruit by Jeanette Winterson
Not a happy family by Shari Lapena.

This month’s book is the Thursday Murder Club. We still have some space if you would like to join us, just let Rebecca know
