And a thoughtful poem, found by Carolyn.

Monday Walkers

Brixham WI on tour from Dawlish Warren to Dawlish. We declined the second part of the walk along the prom and escaped up a footbridge for the rest of the walk. As you can see, Sue and Trish were the losers in the “outrun the waves” race. Thankfully, the charity shops provided us with dry trousers!

Yesterday!

Do you get it? Prizes for the correct answer!

It is interesting to note that the first WI resolution, over 100 years ago, was about housing.

On 24 October 1918 at the NFWI’s second Annual Meeting, WI members passed the first WI resolution, calling for the provision of a sufficient supply of convenient and sanitary houses.

Brixham WI on tour!

We supported the Wear it Pink day for breast cancer at Churston Golf Club this morning!

We wore pink (including a pink handkerchief, some pink hair….)
We bought (and consumed) delicious cakes
We drank coffee
We bought raffle tickets (thank you Jayne Stone for organising!)
We had a fab, sociable morning, in the sun outside on the terrace!

Institute Meeting yesterday

We enjoyed a very interesting meeting yesterday, well attended despite the drenching rain! There were loads of activities to sign up for and plenty of chat going on! Fabulous! Well done Jayne and everyone involved!

If you would like to come along to the wine tasting evening on 29th November, organised for us by Tina, please let her know now!
Here are some of the gorgeous flowers.

What’s On?

It’s a beautiful morning, ready for a great week of activities for Brixham WI members!
Monday: A message from Sue Martin and the walkers: We are as usual catching the 12 bus at 9.30 to Paignton, then catching the gold bus to Totnes. With a view of walking by the river to start with.
Wednesday: Institute Meeting, starting at 2pm. Our speaker has been before, so we know it will be a brilliant afternoon!
Friday 20th: Last Week, the majority of the people at the Berry Head coffee morning decided that, this week, they would go to Churston Golf Club instead for the ‘Wear it Pink’, fundraising event, raising awareness for breast cancer.
The burning question of the day: Will any of us wear pink?

Monday Walk and Friday coffee at the Berry Head Hotel

We enjoyed good coffee and tea, an improving view as the rain ceased - but above all really great conversation and a bit of a giggle! Some news, some gossip and lots of fun! We decided that we shall ’Wear it Pink’ next week at Churston Golf Club - meet there at 10.30. (Wearing pink!)

Here are Mary W’s photos from the Monday walk! It looks like they had a great time!

Straight from the horse’s mouth…

At the Golf Club today I took a photo of the Wear it Pink day, Friday 20th October. I am thinking of turning up, in pink, at about 11 am. Anyone else coming along?

Book Worms

Bookworms met yesterday at the golf club to discuss in a thousand different ways by Cecelia Ahern. We enjoyed the book and the idea she had for it but found it flipped back and forth into the past hard to follow and felt it rushed the end. Enjoyable book but perhaps not one we’d rush to recommend.
Other authors mentioned Rachel Hore ‘the secret love child’
Anita Shreve ‘the weight of water’
Lucinda Riley ‘seven sisters series’
Robin Hobbs
Alex Michealides ‘the silent patient’
We also discussed the price of buses and trains.
We spoke about the two library apps that are free to use m. Borrowbox (ebooks, eaudiobooks and magazines) and Libby (ebooks, eaudiobooks and newspapers) although slowly over the next few months Libby’s content will be moved onto borrowbox.

This months book is ‘the lighthouse keepers daughter’ by Hazel Gaynor

Thank you, Rebecca, for this!
