Patchwork Post! Number 1 - preparations!

Or...Cutting up Pieces of Fabric in order to Sew them Back Together

Stage One:
You will need: scissors, tape measure or ruler, pins, needles and thread and scraps of fabric. (Old cotton garments or duvet covers will be perfect).
These items are not essential, but very useful if you have them:  a sewing machine which you know how to thread and use, a cutting mat and rotary cutter, and an unpicking tool.

Step One: take a scrap of fabric (say, 6” 15cm square), fold it in half and either use your machine or sew by hand, a line 1/4” 5cm  from the fold. Use a running stitch.

Please will you email me to let me know whether you are hand or machine sewing? Thank you!
When using your machine, always begin with the threads pulled back, away from you. Place the fabric ready to sew and drop the needle into the fabric before beginning to sew. Both of these help to avoid the annoying birds nest which sometimes appears at the start of the sewing line!
