Our WI membership subs will be due in April. Plenty of current members across the country may well be asking, what have I had for my £43 in 2020? Shouldn’t the WI give us a free or reduced year in 2021?
Here is a comment made on the UWI Facebook page by Valerie Hughes, in response to those questions:
The 'issue ' of subs
The WI is a charity. We may support other charities - the RNLI for example - how many of us are likely to be rescued by them ? The RSPCA - do we get to pet the animals they save ? Cancer research - in case we, our friends or family need treatment, the NT so future generations can enjoy the splendid historical houses and gardens like we have.
If you move to a new area and want to make new friends the WI is a 'safe' place to go. You don't have to be part of a couple, you don't have to be fit, you don't have to have religious beliefs, you don't have to have green fingers, you don't have to be academic, quick witted, good at making cakes, crafty ... you don't have to be 'good' at anything, nor do you have to be a certain age (well just voting age)
If members don't pay their subs because of what 'they' are not getting this will all stop. simple as that...
