Tuesday Social
We enjoyed a very sociable afternoon - Crafty as well, some achieving more success than others! (Mine has gone straight into the bin! It’s all learning....!)

Record of our November meeting
Brixham WI Meeting – 21st November 2019
The meeting started with a bang when, to the delight of members, the committee made a surprise appearance in array of coloured costumes, complete with wigs, in keeping with the theme of this year’s competition “Over the Rainbow”.
Sparks then welcomed everyone to the meeting and yet again, the room was packed and buzzing.
Apologies were received from Jill Daw, Margaret Seaward and Elly Challoner
Jerusalem was sung with gusto then we sat back and enjoyed a fantastic presentation by Kay Castleman showing how the war affected fairgrounds and the showmen during the second world war.
Thank you to Evan and Wendy for coping with the ever-growing numbers of cups of tea and the inevitable washing up that follows. During the tea, voting took place on the wonderful array of entries to the competition.
Val led the exercise session and introduced some facial exercises into the usual routine with hilarious results.
Business
Sparks gave a special mention to our new members and introduced the new “Welcome Team” of Ann Parker and Margaret Thomas who take over the role from Marilyn who has moved away and will be sadly missed and we were all invited to make a special effort to speak to someone we haven’t spoken to before.
Sparks apologised for the absence of notes from the last meeting in the monthly letter but reminded those of us who have computers to follow the blog and the Facebook page to keep up with all the news.
Treasurer’s Report
500+ Club. Membership costs £5.00. Half of the proceeds go towards supporting DFWI with the other half given in prizes.
2020 subscriptions of £43.00 are due at the January meeting. Please bring cash or cheque in a named envelope or make the payment online by bank transfer. Account details are available from Tina.
Also at the January meeting members will be asked to sign a Data Protection authorisation so that photos etc can be shown on the blog and in the media.
Red Box donations of sanitary items for schools. As this initiative is to be taken over by the government from January, we agreed instead to support the local food bank. Collection boxes will be available at the December meeting. Tins of meat and fish products and pate in ring-pull tins are especially welcome.
Washing up. Members agreed that kitchen help for special events would be welcome and we will look into costs.
Feedback
Remembrance – a moving service and it was a great honour to lay a wreath on behalf of the WI
Posies for friendship were gratefully received
The beading workshop was enjoyed by everyone and our efforts were on display, along with some lovely robins, made at the stained-glass workshop. Thanks to everyone who brought along their pieces.
Truro trip – a thoroughly enjoyable day, despite the weather and a very late return to Brixham.
Forthcoming Events
Tuesday 28th November – Social Group. We will be making Shaker Cards. Please bring the usual kit plus a metal ruler and craft knife if you have then. £1.00 to cover the cost of materials.
Tuesday 28th November – Galmpton WI trip to Saltram House and Endsleigh Garden Centre. Leaving The Manor at Galmpton at 10.00. Please see Sparks for details.
Tuesday 3rd December, Christmas Lunch
12.30 for 1.00 at the Paignton Club
Wednesday 4th December. Invitations to Christmas parties at Galmpton and Paignton WIs. Details to follow.
Thursday 5th December, 2.30 Group Carol Service (with Stoke Gabriel, Galmpton & Paignton) at Brixham Methodist Church, Fore Street, followed by mince pies at the community centre. Donations of mince pies are very welcome. Please take these to the Community centre before the service.
Thursday 12th December 2.15 – Brixham WI Christmas Party – please bring a small plate of food to share.
Saturday 14th December 10.00 – 12.00 Christmas Coffee Morning

Raffles
Monthly meeting raffle - seven lovely prizes – thanks to Sue for organising this and the
VE Day raffle tickets to support the celebrations in May. Tickets £5.00 to win £2,000 or a cruise.
Competition
The votes were counted and the well-deserved winner was Mavis for her beautiful hand-knitted and applique blanket. Coming close in second place was a very cute purple dragon. Well done to everyone who entered.

Over the Rainbow entries!

Fun and fabulous crafting afternoon
16 or maybe 17 people came along to the Rugby Club today to enjoy an afternoon of beading. (It could be that one person was not so keen, but she made drinks for everyone else instead - so, thank you very much, we all very much appreciated that). We had two options, a pretty bracelet and a star. Lovely! Tina and Theresa from Yes@theEdge were excellent tutors. We are hoping to book them for a whole day next year. Thank you to our Tina for organising it all.

World Kindness Day
Six of us got together this morning to create some pretty posies which will be given to neighbours and friends today, to let them know we care! A very lovely morning!
Invitation to join a Galmpton trip
There is a coach trip organised by Galmpton WI on Thursday, 28 November to Endsleigh Garden Centre and Saltram House. There are several places available, the cost is £10 for the coach plus entrance fee to Saltram for non National Trust members. The coach will leave the Manor Inn at 10.00 am. If any one is interested to contact me!
