Our May Meeting

At yesterday's meeting, which was our annual meeting, Lynn Asher was presented with flowers to thank her for her service as our President for the previous 2 years. Sparks Beattie who was also resigning from the committee was given some cheese! ( Sorry no photo for that).

Val Pearson won the silver spoon for most points through the year in the Flower competition.

What’s On?

Here’s something we can all do!

 Me & The Plastic Sea

🚨 A blister pack recycling scheme is coming to Brixham! 🚨
In collaboration with Prospect Brixham, we are bringing a new recycling scheme to the town!
We are working with the company My Group who recycle every bit of the product; foil, plastic and any residual medication waste. (I’ll pop a link to their website in the comments!)
You can find us for our first collection day on Saturday the 11th July on Fore Street (see photo here for more details).
We’d like to spread the word so if any local businesses would like to have a poster, please let us know! We hope to introduce a few drop-off points soon too, to make things a little easier and more convenient for people.
And lastly, if you’d like to support the scheme moving forward funding wise (we have to pay per box we fill and send off!) so please get in touch!
So remember folks, save those empty blister packs and spread the word! 📣

Another very interesting event!

We have sent this to each member by email, and here it is again just in case you didn’t read it. If you wish to attend, you need to email Liz Roberts on the address below. Don’t worry about sending the actual form, just make sure you include all of the necessary information in your email. (And pay, of course!)

What’s on?

From Nicky Bailey, (Life on the Edge team) to the Women’s Conservation Group

Hi all, I just wanted to say thank you to those of you who came out last week – we managed to get so much so much done and hopefully it will have made a big difference to the little hedge trees when they got that much-needed soak on Saturday! And special thanks to Yvonne ( and her husband!) for providing the hot water – a task with no tea break would’ve been a travesty 😊

The next task will be on Thursday 28th May. We will be heading over to Man Sands to do a bee walk, this is a short and fairly simple bee survey, looking for what is out and about at that time, but we will also make sure to record other things we find flying and buzzing around!

This activity is aimed at complete beginners and we will be joined by our Conservation trainee, Mike, who is studying for an MSc in entomology and leads our Friday volunteer surveys. He is a whizz at all things insects, eager to share his passion and will help us to identify what we find along the way!

If you need a pick up the bus will be at Brixham no.12 stop in the town centre ( near the car park) at 1.10pm, or meet at Man sands car park at 1.30pm. You don’t need to bring anything, just clothes for the weather and some walking boots or shoes.

If you would like to come but haven’t yet booked – there are still places available – just email us at lote@southdevon-nl.org.uk

We hope to see you soon!

Nicky

Cribbage Fun!

Come and join in with us at cribbage on Wednesday at Brixham Rugby Club 2pm. You can see how much fun it is!

Beginners welcome as we will teach you. If you like playing cards you'll love crib.

(Pictures of Sparks with a winning streak.)

Editor’s note: This is entirely due to the skill of the cribbage player. No luck at all.
