Some exciting courses ahead with Dart Bay

Just to let you know a couple of updates with our latest events:-

• Saturday 26th August 2017 - Handmade Toys - Church Mice Family, St Martin's Church Hall, Barton, Torquay. 10am - 3.30pm, £25 includes materials and refreshments, bring a packed lunch - 5 places still available

• Saturday 2nd September 2017 - More Persian Cookery,  This has now been replaced with a Bread making day as the tutor is moving house. The details are still the same, we have 7 places available on this workshop. Coombe Pafford School kitchen, 10am - 4pm, £35 includes materials and refreshments, bring a packed lunch

• Thursday 19th October 2017 - Playing with Powertex (mixed media decorative sculpting medium), JAX Studio, Market Forum, Torquay Town Centre. 10am - 3.30pm- £25 includes materials and refreshments, lunch break in town (buy your own).6 places available.

• Friday 3rd November 2017 - Egg Crafts for Christmas - St Martin's Church Hall, Barton, Torquay. 2.30pm - 7.30pm, £25 includes materials and refreshments. Bring a shared afternoon tea (sandwiches, cakes)  plenty of places available.

• Friday 1st December 2017 - A Country Christmas - Dart Bay Exclusive Event,Rattery Village Hall, 10am - 3.30pm, £25 includes materials and refreshments, Bring a Shared lunch. Plenty of places available at the moment.

Devon County Show 2017
Thank you to all the members who came and visited our stand at the Devon County Show. Another great display, which prompted one of our first visitors, Esme Gibbins from Poltimore WI, to remark that the frames used reminded her of windows and together we came up with a new slogan 'The WI - a window of opportunity' and next day, with Kate Bailey's help, there was a poster!

I am pleased to report that the request for hand-made poppies for the special Tribute to the First World War in the Craft Marquee at the show far exceeded expectations. Not only was the target of 11,500 reached but well and truly exceeded with 33,000 poppies being produced and beautifully displayed. It was not possible to individually identify all of the poppies but I did see that Bradninch WI had produced a couple of wreaths, one very cleverly made from recycled plastic bottle bases. Thank you to all WIs and individuals who took part.

Very effective indeed- I'm hoping Barbara will do a repeat in the Autumn!

A very special cream tea!

Seated by the pool, overlooking the sea and enjoying delicious scones and daintily cut sandwiches and cakes! It seems it wasn't quite warm enough to tempt anyone to go for a dip in the pool! 

This is why I chose to join Brixham WI.

Everyone knows that the WI is all about friendship and support, having fun and being open to learning all kinds of new things. Why choose Brixham WI? Well, this knitted Brixham was on display at the Community rooms in town this week and when I first saw it two and a half years ago, it was enough for me, personally, to say "I want to join the bunch of women who would think of knitting their own town!" 

I can highly recommend it! I even knitted one of the buildings!
