Somerset Federation is taking action!

WI – Women and Climate Change Campaign
Silver teapots and WI cake. Frocks and best hats. What could possibly go wrong?
Somerset Federation of WI’s Public Affairs team organised a Tea in the Sea tea-party to draw attention to Rising Sea Levels on the Somerset coast.
As a member of the Climate Coalition the WI has been campaigning for greater awareness of Climate Change since 2009.
If sea levels continue to rise at the current rate, in the next 20 years many Somerset homes will be uninhabitable due to flooding.
Are you and your family making changes to your lifestyles to help combat global warming?
As the tide came in, as the photos show, the stalwart WI ladies braved the waves still clutching their bone china cups!

On Dunster beach.
Here are some inspiring women - having some fun and making a good point.

June 6th D Day commemoration Parade

Some members of Brixham WI took part in the Parade on June 6th to mark the 75th Anniversary of the D Day Landings. Mary laid a wreath for us.

More Fashion Show photos flooding in!

Ahhh! You really should have been there!

1940s Fashion Show was Sensational!

Shoalstone Pool provided an amazing backdrop for the ladies and gents who had clearly gone to a great deal of effort, attention to detail and time to appear in their lovely 1940s outfits. Thank you all, you put on an excellent show for us. There were plenty of WI members as well as others to make the show go with a swing, ending up with some dancing by the poolside.
Thank you to everyone involved!

Tuesday craft session

Barbara showed us all how to make the very pretty fabric flowers she had learned during her stay at Denman College. We all worked hard, chatting all the while, of course, and most of the flowers were completed by the end of the afternoon. Thank you Barbara!

Happy Birthday Brixham WI

We enjoyed a great, social meeting, with plenty of gorgeous food provided by the members. Val did a fun exercise session, which had us all moving and Mary gave lots more details about our contribution during the D Day Commemoration week in Brixham. People also put their name on the list for our bowling taster afternoon on June 13th.
We spent the afternoon on a very tricky ‘ding bats’ quiz, won in style by a new visitor! Also, we played social bingo which was a lot of fun and, with luck, has meant that we have all learnt each others’ names! Will we remember next time...? 😂🤔

Here we are being very flexible indeed from the hips!

If you look closely at the next photo, you will see our very hardworking members who provided the teas and did mountains of washing up : Wendy, Sue, Ann, Barbara, Tina and probably others - thank you all.

Denman College

Two of our members have set off today for a course at Denman College! I think they have chosen to do a mixed crafts course - I’m sure we shall all benefit from what they learn, over the next few Tuesday craft workshops!
Perhaps they will inspire us all to apply for one of the many bursaries available through Devon FWI and through Denman! It is a great place to go!
